Quick Tip MSB: Rubber Feet

Rubber feet keep the white tray off the counter in case things get wet, and prevent it from sliding around.

Hi there! Here's a pretty quick tip for this Wednesday:

A while ago, I became concerned that I was going to cut off my arm, or at least several digits, while using our cutting board, which slid all over the place on our counters. I tried using a dish cloth underneath it, but wanted something more permanent and, well, better. I consulted Expert Google, who told me there are such things as cutting board feet! These rubber guys were less than $3, so I splurged and added them to our cutting board. Voila - it worked. Like a charm. The feet stay on during washing and really keep the board stationary, so I recommend.

A tiny, clever solution to a sliding cutting board.

But I had some other issues, too.

We used to keep our dish washing paraphernalia in an over-the-sink tray, but I found it untenable because it took up room in the actual sink. Room we needed. So I moved our soap and gear to the counter, and eventually settled on this little white try to keep it all corralled. Corralling things, by the way, is the key to having them look tidy. Anyway, the tray is right by the sink, for obvious reasons, and water would go under there and sort of stay...not good. What could I use to elevate it a wee bit? And maybe keep it in place? My rubber feet. Hooray! But wait, that's not all. Remember when I took this shot to show our new brick walls, and I failed to notice the ridiculously crooked pictures in the photo?

Ugh.

Well, these, and the photos in our gallery hallway, had a tendency to slip a bit. It obviously drove me crazy. Hanging pictures by more than one nail can fix this problem, keeping the artwork stationary. But that means a lot more measuring and more holes in the walls, so I didn't do it. Enter the rubber feet. Adding a couple to the bottom corners of each frame keeps the frames from sliding around.

Ahhhh. Nice and straight. I've also heard that little felt feet can help with this, but I'm happy with the sticky rubber "bumpons" (apparently that's what they're called), which are preventing countless straightenings as I walk up and down the hall and into the kitchen. And, if you're an eagle eye, you might notice that the picture of corn is crooked in the second photo - I went back and added a couple bumpons to fix that hot mess.
So there's my quick tip for today! I feel like's it so obvious, but sometimes the obvious stuff is the stuff you miss. It's a beautiful day and looks like it will stay that way into the weekend, which I pretty excited about. I'll be back tomorrow with something fun!
