Decor Monday: Nate & Sonal's Gorgeous Home
Good morning everybody! (Louisa used to greet the world that way, and on our trip to California, our friends revived it. Say it, as sincerely as you can, and I promise your day will look a little brighter). As promised, I've got a few more photos from our trip out west today - the last of the bunch. I shared Nate and Sonal's newly functional entry last week, and today, I thought we'd take a quick look at their family room. Nate and Sonal have a great style that feels very, very calming, while still incorporating nice hits of color, especially orange (Sonal's fave). Everything you see here was in the home already, but I did fiddle, just a bit, with all the components. (Side note: I loooove to fiddle. If you ever need to entertain me or want to cheer me up or feel bad for me, let me play around with your furniture). Anyway, when I got there, Sonal and Nate's family room looked like this:
Well, I brought Wes and Lou, but otherwise, this was teh scene. I didn't make any huge changes, because it was already so lovely, but I tweaked things just a bit. First, I moved the chair so it was perpendicular to the sofa, not catty-corner next to it, which allowed me to center the sofa on the back wall.
Then I grouped things a little differently, moving the baskets together for a more cohesive way to store blankets and toys, and putting plants on both sides of the couch for symmetry, where all four had lived on the left side before. We brought down a side table and record player they already had and put it by the chair, which really makes for a little more function and cuteness in that back corner. Then I messed with accessories a tiny bit, bringing in another orange plant and editing the throw pillows, digging through their stash to put together a bunch I thought played really nicely together.
Ah yes, and we hung the mirror above the sofa. You can't see it here, because I was sort of stressed out and forgot to use it, but the very best picture hanging tip for hanging something with more than one hook is to cut a piece of painter's tape to size and then use that to place your picture and to make sure your screws are level. Doing it the way I'm doing it above, with a pencil and some crossed fingers, is no bueno.
Ahhh. As usual, I've used real-life before shots and empty, staged after shots, which isn't quite fair, but trust when I say these few tweaks made a huge difference! The whole room felt more spacious and more intentional, and the tiny change of moving the chair and couch made the room feel less crowded and more tranquil. If you, like me, ever feel sick of your space or are itching to make a change, start with what you've got. Move it over six inches and see what you've wrought! Cheap, easy and eco-friendly.
Thanks, as always, for stopping by, and I'll see you Thursday!
