August 2015 House Tour

The heart of the home.

Guys. Soooo much to talk about. We've been slammed, in the best of ways, this past couple weeks. Hanging with friends, doing yoga and sometimes running, experimenting with Lou Lou bucks and doing the Marie Kondo thing (tidying up) with gusto. I really can't wait to share my thoughts on the KonMari method with y'all, but I'm hoping to do that next Monday. For today, as promised, I thought we'd do a quick tour of where we're at. This is pretty much all (and a lot of) photos, so feast your eyes. And since it is so many photos, I'm going to do a front of the house/back of the house split again, so let's start with the front. We can talk the talk about what's happening, and why, soon.

First up: the family room.

We talked about the new coffee table on Monday, and I'm still digging it (two days later, so I guess that's good). I am loving this whole room right now, though - feels serene but also interesting, which is my general goal. No major plans for this room, other than some light switching and maybe art rearrangements.

Next to the family room is the dining "room."

I've been futzing with the bookshelves for, like, ever, and I'm finally pretty happy with them, though I'm not done done done. I don't mind a ton of books, but things were looking just crowded and crammy and disjointed, and I'm happier now. Bret's gonna kill me - said futzing happend whilst he was in China - but he'll get over it. I also recently ditched the rug under the table, which was causing nothing but grief (and I should have known better). Big, big plans for the bookshelf wall: paint treatment, some sort of backing on the shelves, and dresser makeover. Oooooor replacement. Stoked.

And of course, there's the kitchen.

It's a fairly unfiltered view of our space. I didn't do the dishes. Or clean up all the extension cords we use. I will try to take better shots of more "finished" spaces and (finally) update the home tour page, but that's down the line. In the meantime, I am LOVING our apartment right now. Sometimes, you just hit a good spot. What do you think? Any favorite spots? Questions? I'll be back tomorrow or Friday with the rest of the house!
