Hi, hi and happy Friday. Lou has "casual day" on Friday, which I find hilarious. And, although she declared she's tired of uniforms (three weeks in) this week, she wears the same sparkly pink skirt every Friday. If our school didn't do uniforms, I would just buy five of those. Sure, it's annoying to see it all the time, but it's annoying to see it all the time while an entire (super cute!) wardrobe languishes, unloved, in her closet, too. Now I know.
But I digress. How's this for a segue: Lou loves sparkly skirts, but she loves pumpkins even more. She loves pumpkins so much that, when we recently lost her best blankie (okay I. I lost her best blankie), she actually replaced it as an attachment object with a pumpkin. No joke. She picked up a small pumpkin at the store one day, we brought it home, and now she sleeps with it, holds it when she's sad, the whole thing. It's totally weird, but completely adorable.
So, while I wouldn't have thought I'd do a "fall decor" post, her love of these little squashes drove the search for fall decor. We're not done - she insists we need some fall leaves - but here's where we are now. We searched out the tiniest pumpkins we could find, and loaded them into my large white platter. Then we bought these "baby pumpkins" plants and put them in one of our blue china vases; the other holds inky purple dahlias and cabbage blossoms. I love it! Simple, but sweet, and it's actually nice to have a break from the monstera we had over there all summer. Those large leaves were perfect for a tropical jungle feel, but in a couple easy switches, we've achieved fall on this side of the room. And that made me suddenly itch for fall on the other side of the room, as well.
I switched out the new white coffee table, and I'll share where it ended up soon (I know. I just got that thing. There's a method, I swear). In the meantime, we're back to this woven basket and a big pouf, which, while not my long term hope, are really perfect for right now: easily movable, flexible, soft, comfortable. Leave lots of room for Westley's gear. Then I switched out some pillow covers for some I had on hand, and added a throw... it's all very temporary, I think, but the switch really scratched my seasonal itch.
Meanwhile, across the room, can you spot the difference? I got new lamps! And I love them! Yes, I feel like everything in this room is somehow ending up the same color wood, but I've got plans to work around for that. For now, these lamps, which I really want to describe as "leggy," are much cleaner and more streamlined than what I had up there before. Here's a refresher:
Those lamps never really did it for me. They're my grandmothers', decades old, and Ethan Allen real brass. I painted them green. No, I don't know what the heck I was thinking - they were awesome as they were! Green, they were sad. And too short for this space. So they're put away for now, and we're loving the tall, mid-century, unpainted ones in their place.
Here's more of a head-on shot. I got the lamps from a guy on our parents' list who was selling me a stroller. He threw these in for $5 each! I think longer, cylindrical shades are more traditional, but I don't hate the placeholder shades I've got right now. When they're not crooked.
Annnnd, that's my fall decor post. If we figure out leaves, I'll let you know. Lou is really, really into leaves, and also making wreaths. (She actually was planning our Valentine's Day wreath the other day). So I'll report back if we do something around that, but it's hard to get motivated to bring in moldy real leaves, fake leaves, or a wreath for our internal apartment door in our three unit building...but Lou can be pretty persuasive. Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great weekend!
