Hi there! It's been so long since we've done a Friday Loves post, and I am thrilled to get back into the groove with this one. We're huge fans of Halloween around here, and we are also huge fans of Calvin and Hobbes. When it came time to choose a Halloween costume, sometime in July, this was an obvious pick.
I started with Calvin's costume. That was super-easy, because Calvin wears the same thing every day: black pants, red-and-black-striped shirt, lace-up sneaks and spiky hair. I found a cheap red tee-shirt, so I just markered on the black stripes.
Then I spiked his hair, and he did the rest. He's the perfect little hipster Calvin, no? This pose is so quintessential Calvin: I can practically see the hapless colony of ants he's about to smash.
Hobbes was a bit more involved. It turns out that tiger costumes for a giant five-year-old are tough to find. This one, which we finally found at Spirit Halloween, was labeled a 4-6, but you can see it's a bit short for our glamazon. You might also spy that it's a cheap, uninspired tiger who bares no resemblance to adorable Hobbes.
Nothing a little surgery can't fix! With some white fur and black felt, I transformed that dude.
Now that's the Hobbes we know and love! I cut off the strangely bulbous eyes and hot glued this replacement onto the tiger head. It's a good thing Bill Waters' rendering of Hobbes falls within my artistic ability.
I mean. Can you even? Oh! And I added a soft furry belly to Hobbes here as well. I've also gotten white gloves for Lou for actual Halloween. It's all about the details, y'all.
I borrowed a red wagon from a local parent, and we headed to the woods...or what we call "woods" around here, in Prospect Park.
And that's as much patience as West had with that. So, there's a little adorable-ness for your Friday afternoon. Have a great weekend!
PS - The cutest Harry Potter you ever did see.
